The trail network around the Belchen is among the most popular hiking areas in the Black Forest. Classic routes include the ascent from Multen or Oberböllen to the summit, the Belchen circular trail, and the challenging Belchensteig. The Westweg, one of Germany's most famous long-distance hiking trails, passes directly over the summit. Along the way, you traverse ancient mixed mountain forests and open pastures with panoramic views.

Equipment & Rental: Good hiking boots and weatherproof clothing are essential – weather at the Belchen can change rapidly. Trekking poles and hiking maps are available in the villages of Münstertal or Wiesental.

In winter, the Belchen often receives abundant snow, and the snow-covered forests and meadows are excellent for snowshoe hikes. Guided full-moon or twilight tours are particularly special experiences. Winter hiking trails are regularly cleared and offer safe paths even without snowshoes.

Equipment & Rental: Snowshoes can be hired from local sports rental shops in Münstertal or Schönau. Gaiters and warm clothing are indispensable.

The steep ascents and flowing paths of the Belchen challenge trail runners and mountain bikers alike. Singletrack through the forest and forest roads at various difficulty levels make the region a compelling destination. The Belchen Trail Run is a popular event for ambitious runners.

Equipment & Rental: Mountain bikes and e-bikes can be rented in the surrounding villages. Trail running shoes with good grip are important on the sometimes root-strewn paths.

The Belchen is a popular launch site for paragliders, who soar from the summit over the Rhine Valley. Thermals on the southern slopes provide good flying conditions, especially in summer. The flora and fauna of the Belchen are also noteworthy: rare orchids bloom on the mountain meadows, and with luck you may spot chamois, which have been reintroduced to the area in recent years.

From April, snow melts on the lower paths and the first crocuses push through the meadows – a beloved photo opportunity. Ideal for hikes at mid-altitude. The summit can still be wintry until May.

Pleasant 15–22 °C at the summit, perfect for extended hikes, trail running, and mountain biking. The mountain meadows are in full bloom. Views are clearest in the early morning – stretching all the way to the Alps.

The autumn foliage of the beech forests around the Belchen is spectacular. Stable weather and fewer visitors make autumn an insider's secret. During temperature inversions, the summit rises like an island above a sea of fog.

Abundant snow and the Belchen cable car make the mountain easily accessible even in winter. Snowshoeing, winter hiking, and cross-country skiing in the surrounding area are hugely popular. The view of the snow-covered Alps on clear winter days is unparalleled.

The Belchen cable car takes you to the summit area comfortably, where easy circular paths await. Family-friendly trails and the inn at the Belchenhaus make the mountain attractive for beginners and families with children.

Full-day hikes along the Belchensteig or from Münstertal to the summit and on into the Wiesental demand stamina and sure-footedness. Snowshoe hikes in changeable winter weather require good orientation skills and appropriate equipment.

The Westweg as a multi-day stage over the Belchen, demanding trail running circuits, and technical mountain bike trails on the steep slopes cater to experienced outdoor athletes. Paragliding from the Belchen requires a valid licence and knowledge of local wind conditions.
